Energy saving tips.
Here are just a few of the easy ways you can manage your costs - and conserve energy too:
- Lower your home's thermostat in winter to 68 degrees, and in summer to 78 degrees. You could save up to 10-15% on heating and cooling costs.
- Cutting a minimum of two minutes per shower could save more than $200 a year in water heating costs.
- Choose ENERGY STAR®-rated appliances and lighting and cut your energy bill by up to 10%.
- Change incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescents that last ten times longer and save more than $90/light on electric bills over the bulb's life.
- Use a power strip to turn off computers and electronic chargers when not in use and save $10 a year.
- Check your refrigerator seal and replace it if necessary. The refrigerator accounts for about 25% of your electric bill.
- Use cold water rinse in the washer and match the water level to the load size to save more than $30 per year.
- Use the moisture sensor setting on your clothes dryer and cut energy use by 15%.
- Run only full loads in the dishwasher, and air dry dishes. You'll knock about 35% off the energy use.
- Caulk and weather-strip around windows and doors, install gaskets behind outlet covers, and save up to 10% on heating or cooling costs.
